COLOSTRUM
It is essential that all calves receive adequate quantities of colostrum within 3 to 6 hours of birth. Milk feeding of purchased calves should commence after a rest period of approximately 6 hours after arrival.
MIXING RATES
For twice daily feeding systems, mix with water at the rate of 125 g of powder to make 1 litre of mixed milk replacer. After 2-5 days increase the powder concentration to 150g per litre.
For machine feeding systems, follow the machine manufacturer’s recommendations or contact your specialist.
TO MIX
1. Sprinkle a measured amount of powder into a bucket of warm water (42º).
2. Whisk briskly.
3. Add hot or cold water to obtain the amount required at the correct concentration to achieve a feeding temperature of 42ºC.

The feeding schedule above is an approximate guide for feeding calves up to weaning at 6 weeks. If a later weaning age is required extend the maximum volume feeding period accordingly. The above table assumes a birth weight of approximately 40 kilograms. Calves of a lighter live-weight should be fed less in accordance with their size e.g. a 30kg calf should receive 75% of the recommended amounts shown and achieving a maximum of 2 litres per feed when appropriate.
Roughage in the form of good quality barley straw or hay should be available after 3-4 days.
Fresh clean water should be available at all times.
Wean once calves are 6-8 weeks of age and eating 1kg of concentrate daily for 2 consecutive days.
