BRITAIN'S LEADING FAMILY MILLERS
There has been a mill on the banks of the River Nene at Bugbrooke ever since the Domesday Book was compiled in 1086.
The Heygate family have been farming in Northamptonshire since 1562 and took over the mill in the early 19th century.
The family business has grown to be a leading company in both feed and flour milling with a reputation for providing quality products and customer service. Each week the company produces up to 3000 tonnes of animal feeds and mills in excess of 8000 tonnes of wheat into flour, some of which is baked into several million loaves of bread every week at the company's two bakeries in Banbury and Manchester.
As well as the feed and flour mills, The Heygate Group farms 5500 acres in Norfolk, and 2000 acres in Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire, producing milling wheat, oilseed rape, beans, vegetables and salad crops.
The Northamptonshire feed and flour mills are located to make the best use of locally grown cereals from East Anglia, with easy access to the motorway network to distribute finished products throughout the country. A flour mill at Tring supplies the south of the country and the Downham Market mill is well placed to utilise locally grown English wheat.
Heygates' animal feeds are based on a blend of traditional raw materials and modern technology, resulting in the best possible quality and value for money. The animal feed mill uses cereals and fresh wheatfeed products from the flour mills, together with quality protein sources such as rape meal and and soya bean meal. Almost half the raw materials used in the animal feed mill come from the flour mills on the same site, reducing the need for road transport and minimising the carbon footprint of the products.
Quality control is one of the most important functions within the animal feed mill. Samples of raw materials and finished products are tested by trained technicians in the on site laboratory to ensure that all Heygates feeds meet the strict quality criteria.
All the feeds manufactured at Bugbrooke Mills are vegetarian. No animal proteins are used. We produce bulk farm feeds for dairy cows, beef, sheep, pigs and poultry and bagged smallholder feeds for a complete range of animals, specialising in horses, poultry, pigs, sheep, cattle, goats, camelids and rabbits.
Services to customers include full dairy costings, computerised ration formulation, forage analysis and specialist advice. A team of qualified animal nutritionists is available to advise our customers and ensure that our products continue to be the best that money can buy.
